Six MidSouth Rugby Referees were promoted to higher referee grades at the 2016 Nash Bash referee dinner. Throughout the season, referees work with referee coaches and evaluators to calibrate their performance on the field. During a game, a rugby referee must make a decision, on average, every 6 seconds. Additionally, referee us other tools, besides the whistle, to facilitate a safe and enjoyable game. USA Rugby’s referee grading manual outlines competencies for a spectrum of competition from junior games to international competition. As referees develop their skill, fitness, and game understanding, they are promoted to the next grade. Higher grades come with higher standards of performance.
Just as players and coaches work on improving their game, these referees have demonstrated a commitment learning and advancing. Congratulations to these individuals for their consistent performance.
